Branding and Logo Design
Creating a personal brand and logo.
Creating a Logo and Personal Brand
How can I create a brand the represents who I am as a designer and a person?
Role:
Designer
Tools:
Figma, Miro, Dribble
Project Description:
This project was completed during a 9 month mentorship program through Hearst. My personal goal during this mentorship was to build out my portfolio and create an identity and brand for myself as a designer.
Discovery
Research
The first step in the process was to research and collect logo inspiration.
The next task involved creating a mind map of words that describe me as a designer. From this, I selected three words that resonated most strongly with me on a personal level. These words then became the foundational themes for my brand. The three words I chose were:
Cheerful
Creative
Personable
Ideation
Using the three brand themes, I began sketching logo concepts. Many of these designs explored a fun aesthetic, characterized by rounded forms and a playful visual style.
I selected one of the sketched logo concepts to develop digitally and began refining it in Figma.
Exploration and Iteration
Once I had established a digital starting point for the logo in Figma, I began ideating on brand colors. Referring back my three brand-defining words, I selected a color palette that reflected the playful visual style.
From this point, I continued refining the logo by experimenting with its color and stylistic variations.
Through feedback with my mentor, I defined the logo’s overall style and form. We agreed that incorporating a sense of movement through rounded shapes, combined with bubbly letters was the next step.
Finalization
From here it was clean up and last minute refinement to come to the final development of my logo and brand.
This project was a fun exercise to complete really thinking about who I am as a designer and the way I want to portray that through a logo.
